I still have a lot of people asking me how to jailbreak and unlock their iPhones. In case you did not catch me in the elevator or could not get a hold of me on the phone, here’s a step by step guide on how to jailbreak and unlock iPhone 3.1.2 (latest firmware) using one touch of a button. Thanks to blackra1n
1. First, Download blackra1n (Windows) to your computer.
Mac fans please click here
2. Open the program and Click the make it ra1n button, while connecting your iPhone.

3. You will see bunch of codes popping up on your iPhone during the process, (Do NOT Panic!) It should only last for few seconds. Your iPhone will reboot once blackra1n has done it’s job and you should see the blackra1n icon on your phone.

4. Now, your phone has already been UNLOCKED!!! (thanks to the lasted update from geohot.) Open the blackra1n app and install your preferred application from the blackra1n app. You have the option of choosing Cydia or Rock.
For people that don’t know what Cydia is, it simply is a 3rd party app you use when you jailbreak your phone. (do a little Google search, it’ll tell you all about it.) Rock is very similar to Cydia, but in a lighter and faster version. You can choose to install either one, they pretty much work the same.

5. Last but not the least, Enjoy your “new born” iPhone, and use it with any Sim card you wish. No more AT&T. woohoo~~~

Nice guide, I’m in the process of putting a more comprehensive site together with guides on what to do after you jailbreak. Let me know what you think, Why Jailbreak
I found your blog post while searching Google. Very relevant especially as this is not an issue which a lot of peaople know that well
-You can’t really put it any more straightforward than this. Thank you.
Just blowing some free time on Digg and I found your entry. Not normally what I prefer to read about, but it was definitely worth my time. Thanks.
Hi, first I want to thank the Dev-Team for their great job !! I live in Japan and use the Softbank carrier. My I-Phone is the 32GS with 3.1.2 and unlocked and jailbroken with Blackrain and Blacksnow (Windows). Problem is, for the 3rd time in a few months, my phone suddenly stops working. It suddenly freezes and if you restart it then the only thing you see is the white apple mark with the phone that for hours tries to restart itself (and it won’t). Until now I had no problem, I just restored it and then I just had to jailbreak and unlock it again….If I try to RESTORE it now I have only 2 choices from I-Tunes : (1) restore and UPDATE (which automatically updates to 3.1.3 doh) or (2) cancel (which of course means you keep your broken I-Phone) Can somebody give me a good advise on what to do please ?? I’m quite desperate…

There is a full sub-industry inside the subject of the mobile cell phone industry put associated to the jailbreak or unlocking of the mobile phones so that they can be applied on any cellular network, and recent Supreme Court choices in the USA handed down have confirmed that the jailbreak marketplace is legal and legit. That is, conclude-consumer prospects are fairly within their legal rights to do what they wish to their cellular cell phone handset to permit the cell phone to work on other network carriers which is generally known as jailbreak or unlocking the network block.
